Regional NFL Coverage

On Sunday afternoons, the NFL game on your local CBS or FOX station is chosen market by market. Here's how that works and which of this week's games are regional.

TV markets

US broadcast TV is organized into local markets, each served by its own CBS and FOX affiliates. When a network has several games in the same time slot, it sends one to each market. That's why viewers in different parts of the country see different games at 1:00 PM ET.

The home-team rule of thumb

A team's games are generally shown in its home market, home or away. Nearby markets with many fans of that team often get them too. Beyond that, networks pick the game with the most regional interest or the best matchup. That's why a high-profile game can reach a large share of the country while a game between two distant teams may air in only a few markets.

Doubleheaders and single games

Each Sunday, one network usually has a doubleheader (early and late games in most markets) and the other a single game. The single-game network's game might be early or late depending on your market.

Watching a game outside your region

If the game you want isn't assigned to your market, the NFL's out-of-market package, NFL Sunday Ticket, carries Sunday afternoon regional games. Standalone primetime games don't have this problem — they are national.

Regional games in Week 4

These Week 4 games share a Sunday afternoon window, so each reaches only part of the country. The "most likely markets" are the two teams' home markets, where their games are generally shown — not a complete coverage list.
